first aid


RESPIRATION : If a person cease to breath, place him on his back in a firm surface. Press top of head backwards and pull chin forwards to make a clear airway. Still if it fails, give artificial respiration - Mouth to Mouth or Mouth to Nose.

BLEEDING : Applying direct pressure on a open, clean wound will control bleeding. use a sterile dressing with adequate pad and bandage firmly.

FRACTURES : Support the Joints on either side with stiff pads and immobilize it. Send for a doctor at once.

BURNS AND SCALDS : A burn is caused by dry heat and a scald by moist heat like steam, very hot water or oil. Immediately cool the area with cold water for 15minutes still pain subsides.  Do not break blisters, or apply anything on the burns. Cover it with dry sterile or clean cloth, pad and bandage.

CHOCKING : Entering of flood or foreign particles into the wind-pipe cause choking and can be cured by getting patient to bend and thumping shoulder blades with flat of hand. Small child can be held upside down and thumped or tickled at the throat back to make the patient cough or vomit.

ELECTRIC SHOCK : Touch with Rubber soles or rubber gloves, if the patient is still in contact with electrical equipment. Apply artificial respiration and treat for burns and shock as necessary.

ANIMAL BITES : Wash immediately with soap and plenty of water. Cover it with sterile dressing and get quick medical aid.

SNAKE BITES : Keep patient calm wash with soap and plenty of water. Do not rub hard the wound and cover it with constrictive bandage. Identify the snake and get medical aid quickly.

FAINTING : Patient should be laid down with clothing around chest and waist loosened. Turn head to one side. Do not give solid or liquid food. A small quantity of drink may be given on recovery. Allow to move after rest.

FOREIGN BODIES IN THE EYE : Never rub the injured eye. If the object is clearly visible, moistened edge of torn soft paper can be used to remove it. Never use tweezers. If the object is embedded in the eyeball, leave it for the doctor to remove.

GENERAL : If you are in doubt of treatment, do not do anything. you may do more harm.

NOSE BLEEDING : Sit him up facing the breeze and head slightly forward. Ask him to breathe through the mouth and not blow the nose. Apply a cold compress over the nose. The soft part of the nose may be pinched close with the fingers for 10minutes. Cold application on the back of  the neck and forehead may help.

BEE STING : Do not press the bag (of the sting). Use forceps and remove the sting. Apply cold or weak ammonia.
